In our previous blog post, we talked about ways to implement phonics at home. The implementation of phonics can often be enhanced by letting your child read widely. Besides instilling phonics in children, reading books have many other benefits for your child. It sparks creativity in them and also increases their vocabulary and language skills!

Here are some ways to encourage your child to read!

Encourage reading activities

To encourage your child to read, start by slowly implementing it in their daily lives. When going out for dinner, let them read through the menu. When deciding which movie to watch, let them read through a list of movies. As long as words are present, the opportunity to read is there!

Visit your local library

Looking for a way to spend your weekend? Take a trip down memory lane and spend time reminiscing with your little one about books you read during your childhood! Not only will it allow your little one to have an opportunity to read, but it will also create a great bonding experience for the two of you!

Build on their interests

Every child has their own unique interests. When they read books that pique their interest, it creates positive feelings about reading. To elaborate, if your child loves animals, books provide amazing learning opportunities through their content about them. The number of books you can find linked to their interests is endless!
